22 countries, one goal: RT Academy holds international journalism intensive for African media professionals in Moscow

Media professionals from 22 African countries took part in a one-week intensive journalism programme in Moscow, organised by RT Academy as part of Rossotrudnichestvo’s “New Generation” internship initiative.

The programme brought together journalists, presenters, editors and reporters from across the African continent, including Arab Africa, for practical training in international journalism, news production and multimedia storytelling.

The project was officially opened at a ceremony attended by Natalia Lebedeva, Head of RT en Français; Anton Konkin, Senior Producer at RT Africa; Nikita Volkov, Deputy Head of RT’s International Cooperation and Distribution Directorate; and Anna Kovtunova, Head of RT Academy.

Speaking at the opening, Kirill Bogomolov, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo, said that “New Generation” is one of the agency’s flagship projects and that journalism groups are a key priority because journalists know how to tell stories, write, and see the world as it is.

Throughout the programme, participants learned how RT en français and RT International operate, explored the channel’s approach to news production, correspondent work, the use of AI tools and mobile filming, and created their own media content. They shot material in central Moscow and, within 24 hours, developed a story pitch, filmed it and edited the footage.

At the end of the programme, all participants received certificates of completion and left Moscow with new professional skills, fresh impressions and a better understanding of Russia. RT Academy will continue building ties with the journalists and follow their future work after the programme.
