RT Academy held a series of educational events in Tanzania for students, journalists, and media professionals. The programme included workshops at the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), meetings with leading broadcasters in Dar es Salaam, and a final day of sessions at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture.

The first event took place at the State University of Zanzibar, where 150 students and representatives of the local media community met with RT Academy experts. Anna Kovtunova, Head of RT Academy, opened the programme with a presentation on current media trends and RT’s educational projects. Victoria Shatokhina, Producer at RT Africa, spoke about the work of RT Africa and the development of media projects on the continent. Maria Zeleranskaya, Head of Newsroom at RT International, addressed the issue of audience retention in the era of new media. Dmitry Leontev, Senior Producer at RT International, spoke about finding topics in a highly competitive media environment, while Taras Bondarchuk, Director of Photography at RT Africa, focused on television camerawork in the digital age.

After Zanzibar, the programme continued in Dar es Salaam. The RT Academy team held meetings with the management of TBC, Tanzania’s national public broadcaster, and Clouds TV, one of the country’s largest private television channels. The discussions focused on journalist training, changes in the media environment, and professional exchange. The team also presented RT Academy’s projects and introduced a new round of its online course for journalists from African countries, scheduled to begin in the autumn.

The final event of the programme took place on 16 June at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Dar es Salaam. More than 150 people attended. The programme was opened by representatives of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports of Tanzania, the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Dar es Salaam, and the Russian Embassy in Tanzania. During the event, experts from RT Academy, RT International, and RT Africa held sessions on journalism, television broadcasting, and audience engagement in the digital media environment.
